Took a cold shower with my screen. My setup was ghetto to say the least. I finished printing swatches of the snake pattern's inverse on navy linen.

  9.3.10

I got navy fabric today to screen print the snake pattern's inverse. I'm thinking about making gloves and plunging my hand into different recessed areas.

  Matching snake pattern envelope.

  8.19.10

Finished invitations! Now on to designing envelopes. I haven't been posting as much recently, not because I haven't been making work, but NYC sucks away some much needed quality computer alone time. I'm hoping to pick back up in the next few days.

  8.16.10

I'm making invitations to my future performance. The snakes pattern and then it's inverse will be used on the envelopes and letters.

  8.15.10

I am so glad I returned to RGBY Dreams lookbook. It was something I really wanted to make but it just wasn't the right time to make it.

  Snakes on a screen.

  8.12.10

I'm putting snakes pattern onto a screen in the next few days so I can start printing it onto fabric.

  8.10.10

You may recall a forgotten lookbook I was working on a bit ago. At the time I was swamped with projects but I have decided it's time to finish. These are sketches for me to remember where I was going with it.

I finally finished designing the ATA triple show that coming up soon. The idea behind the pattern is a huge field that gets washed over in layers so that areas begin to get heightened and recession occurs.

  7.21.10

I made a little graphic notecard to go with a project concocted by some artists showing at Broadway Gallery. I'll be there helping out so if your in the area come by and snag a card!

I've been developing a new website for a show I'm trying to curate with San Francisco artists showing work in New York. The idea behind the show is that all the artists acknowledge the terms: indoor and outdoor, natural and artificial, as well as, organic and synthetic, as having been separated over the course of history but strongly interconnected.

I've been busy writing a faux proposal for a gallery opening in New York Called, Tan Trails in Rosebud Valley. I thought I'd show the graphics that I'm hoping would reflect concepts of the show, as well as depict what a website chronicling the experience would look like.

I broke my awkward not drawing block.

I have been crushing on the new Miu Miu collection. The pattern and it's inverse being laid on top of one another, has been on my mind. Thinking about maybe an envelope with a pattern, and then the inverse of the pattern being the invitation inside. I've been thinking about my next few projects, and that I want to undergo excessive amount of research, which involves making my own fabrics from a lot of on-site documentation. Camouflage is interesting in conjunction with inverse patterns because of how it blends into nature, but on it's own is psychedelic. I want to make a camouflage series that blends into flower beds or found habitats.

whew, sorry if that was exhausting.

A statement of intent for our RGBY Dreams show I thought might be interesting to post.

RGBY Dreams is an installation that examines the merging of space and time, indoors and outdoors, natural and artificial, organic and synthetic as terms that have been separated over the course of history but are strongly interconnected. Art and physics have made a significant transition from absolute to relative. It is integral to the way we think about the universe to understand time and space as particles constantly moving and overlapping. Interesting, that the place of geography has remained in the absolute. This work examines these paradoxical relationships and creates a convergence of natural and artificial space that investigates the delicate ways in which we transition between these environments. The “wearable sculptures” are presented as clothing that is activated by a ritualized relationship with locations. Their purpose, not as adornments, but as vehicles to transform the body in to a texture: making the claim that artificiality can be viewed as an evolution of nature. In fact, this show has the ubiquitous feeling that we are witnessing the transcendence of space; that we are implicated in the creation of the natural world and we are being given the tools necessary to interact with it harmoniously.

Recursive Grain, is an interactive sound installation that uses magic rocks and sticks that trigger sensors deep within a fallen tree stump to create loops and patterns of sound that repeat and change in pitch and tone according to the amount of people using it. Through a sensory system, the Recursive Grain senses the amount of contact and reacts accordingly, using Max/Msp and a human contact.

Interactive ritual spaces with fluctuating color screen. The Rainbow Grade Ritual Space above, utilizes a series of rocks and layers of sediments to create patterns in video that react to light and heat sensitivity. Each natural object changed a different facet of the video synthesis, including: color; rate of oscillation; and direction of pattern. Rainbow Grade is too, a ritual space that is affected by the amount of human contact, creating more complexity in its loop pattern with the increase of interactivity within a social atmosphere.

I have also been thinking a lot about the work I want to be making after RGBY Dreams show. Possibly returning to graphic projects while carrying similar concepts from the show, such as transforming artificial objects by transporting them out into nature. Heavy textured paper that carries stains and history.

  3.4.10

This is an image of a coat I have been working on, to go into the triangle of clothing we are building for RGBY Dreams show. I am looking to make the garments with the quilts a cohesive concept, as well as with the videos Shemoel has been making. My idea behind this garment was to create something that was pseudo-spiritual, or could be worn to a psychedelic religious event while still being clean and tailored. I love retro outer space furniture and architecture, so I have been experimenting with this in clothing as well as infusing psychedelic patterns into the pieces.

  3.2.10

My friend helped me try out my quilt late the other night outside my studio. It started to crinkle up around the corners and made me realize how important the structure holding it is going to be. I'm researching bases and curtain rods which I'm thinking might be the ticket.

  3.1.10

I finally got some time to properly document the shoes I made. The first image in the sand, surrounded by the shoe's foot prints, was what I had in mind, but the second image, with the background fuzzy, worked out. It looks like a psuedo-romantic vacation postcard.

  2.26.10

  Second quilt finished!

  2.24.10

I shot the Red Neck Layers performance while wearing the resin shoes, at Fort Funston. I wanted long walking scenes where the landscapes could be seen through the shoes, and the climax was in the act of hooking on to the rope from a tree branch. The footage turned out only okay, so and I'm thinking about reshooting somewhere a little closer to home like the Presdio or by the water in Cow Hollow.

  2.23.10

I purchased outdoor plastic tarp material the other day and am using it as the backing for one of the quilts. The batting in the middle is an old, ratty feather down comforter I didn't need anymore. I have been thinking about sewing a grid system on top of the quilt to give it some extra support. The idea of a person ripping through the inside of the quilt in the middle of a performance would defeat the concept, to say the least.

  2.20.10

I made a flyer for the Cathode Memory show at the Diego Gallery. I wanted to design something that captured the idea of the show; landscapes achieved by an additional source of technology. I printed on acetate which gave the average hum drum flyer a futuristic feel and then I added clear rainbow gradient stickers that give the address of the gallery. If you're in the neighborhood or in class feel free to stop by.

  2.17.10

I have been working on two packages: one for a desgin firm and another for a gallery. After a month of heavy editing, they are complete. Inside them are: a DVD containing three videos, a coffee product book, a pocket holding a CD of images, my resume, the Green Grass performance book, a letter of intent, and I'm sure much more that I can't remember right now. I'm just glad they are finished.

  2.16.10

I picked out new fabric for quilt number two. Pardon the late night bad photograph, it's two in the morning here. What you're looking at is one ruffled stretch, a cotton flower print, and grey rainbow wool.

I have been working all day on the quilt with yesterdays purchased fabric. The idea sprang from a sketch I showed awhile back, which was a drawing for a large scale quilt, that would have a pocket that a body could fit inside of. I like the vulnerablity of being trapped inside this feminine process oriented blanket. I also documented fabric samples I am giving to my collaborator, Shemoel. I'm praying he has some ideas on how to hang the quilt onto the wall. My biggest concern for the project is whether or not the fabric will tear, or come crashing down once I slide into the quilt for the performance, which would be very bad.

Luca and I poured the resin into the shoe mold late last night. It smelled awful and I'm sure it will give me some sort of growth or horrible disease. I'll be sure to wear a mask for the rest. I popped it out this morning and am more than pleased with the results. I will post images of the first completed shoe later today!

I'm making shoes! The platforms are for the RGBY Dreams' models to wear. These images show the foam prototype being carved and the mold made from it. I used a vac-u-form machine for the plastic mold and a bandsaw to cut the foam.

This was a project I did a bit ago that I am revisiting. The idea was to make a graphic accordion book. I started with a series of collages that I scanned in, and then integrated vector shapes. I remember the idea behind the piece being about dividing space into sections. The book was intended to be used as something that could be cut up again, by following the shapes and arranging them differently into another simple book.

I'm finally all moved into my studio and feeling comfortable making work in it. It's nice not making messy art projects next to where I eat and sleep. Here are some images of these red stained drawings I just started. I might just scan them in for textures in graphics projects.

A drawing about structure and the fragility of landscapes. Textures, defining shapes by connecting points in space in sequence. Thinking of surfaces as combinations of light and time, constantly changing, and consistently eroding.

Here is a quick image of my performance baggy, which I'm calling "A Cosmic Floral Exercise". The sculpture is intended to be portable which uses rubber tubing, creating a handle for the user to carry and use in a solo performance or private act. The user removes the objects and garments, placing them on the body, or stuffs them into the recessed floral shape. My idea for this piece is in transforming the act of clothing from something with movement which one wears to an event, to the clothing being the event in itself. The wearer stands still or completes simple tasks, in order to emphasize the event of wearing clothing.

Hopefully, in the next few days, I will have found my location to film the performance, and post images!

I have been making loads of work recently, but I have been posting zilch. This is due to the fact that I have been deathly sick these past few days. This is a drawing I did on top of a new sketchbook for some panties I made. I learned how to put elastic into garments, which has become a huge event in my life.

I got a semi-painful swine flu shot today and realized some great patterns can be found at the doctor's office. The wallpaper always feels dated and a little dreary but welcoming all the same. I like hospital design motives: relaxing pastels that expand the space, while still creating a private environment. The illusion of life, against how sterile the space really is.

NEW TUBE FOREST SCULPTURES COMPLETE!

I didn't get the chance to post yesterday because I was feverishly finishing up my torch pieces, for the ATA show tomorrow. The idea for these started as something that could be held like a torch, or ornate staff to light the way while walking through the gallery space. As the pieces evolved however, I started liking them on the floor and how they looked like they were sprouting from the ground.

So, the internet in San Francisco was down. Or more so, my hosting network's internet in San Francisco was down. Actually, I am not quite sure what happened last night, but I do know that my Friday evening was spent eating bad chow mein, on the phone, yelling at the Bluehost guy about all the problems in life.

On the bright side of things, the fiasco got me out of the house early on a Saturday morning and off to the beach in Bolinas.

I thought I would pull something from a Bret Easton Ellis book, and show my business cards I am pleased with. The challenge was designing something that was sculptural in concept and form, while still being a practical and efficiently designed business card, which could slide into any wallet. What I ended up doing was printing a texture onto transparency paper; therefore making any surface it sat against, change in a three-dimensional way. I liked how it could be folded and manipulated, while still bouncing back to business card shape.

Packing is hell.  I think the weekend is much harder to pack for, then say a few months. I was in Iceland for the summer and I color coded/color divided my entire suitcase. The idea was that I constructed all the clothing under the context of travel and versatility. That idea evolved plenty along the way, but I thought I would include some images in this post of what I was working on, when I was out there. I worked for the Reyjkavik Grapevine doing graphics; layout; and photo stuff.

I think artist spaces are great. Actually, I’m just a sucker for interior shots of people's spaces. I live in a tiny studio apartment, on top of a gross overpriced chinese restaurant. What’s great about studio images is seeing how the objects are lived with. I also enjoy seeing the transition from the birthplace of a piece, to the white walls of a gallery. The images in this post are a few areas of my living space/working studio that are liked by me lots and lots.

Also, I live on this interior photo/fashion blog and I suggest you give it a visit.

I made some jewelry pieces to be worn on White Moving Blanket (large quilt I made a few posts back). I was interested in simplicity, and something that would be wrapped around the neck, instead of having intricate clasps and other hazarai. With the accidental destruction of my Hello Kitty Coffee maker, and the recent purchase of the new love of my life CHEMEX, it has gotten me thinking about coffee contraptions all over again. I created the Shiny Milk Machine, as well as it’s packaging, around six months ago. It dispenses milk into coffee with a super long tube, so that Shiny Milk can be pumping away in the kitchen, while I could sip away in the other room. Now I am thinking about making a new gizmo, but this one would brew the coffee and have an Arduino microcontroller element. The drawing of a fish is indeed a fish. I am thinking the fish will have a sensor that will power the machine to produce the coffee.
